Court: All but 14 animals neglected in Vinton case

Posted: Updated:
VINTON (KWWL) -

The Iowa District Court ruled Thursday that all but 14 of the 800 animals that were hoarded in a Vinton home, were neglected.

In January, multiple animal shelters assisted the Cedar Valley Humane Society with what organizers called one of the largest animal rescue situations in eastern Iowa. It took dozens of volunteers more than eight hours to remove crate after crate of rabbits, birds, reptiles and other small animals from Barbara Galkowski's home in Vinton. A spokesperson from The Cedar Valley Humane Society says they do not intend on euthanizing any of the animals, they believe they can find them all new homes.

The Court decided that Galkowski could reclaim 14 of the animals.
