Iowa bill introduced that wouldn't require front license plate

Posted: Updated:

In the Iowa legislature, a bill was introduced that would change what you see on the road.

Iowa law requires drivers to have a license plate  on the front and back of their vehicles. A new bill would change that.

The bill would only require most Iowa drivers to have a single license plate on the back of their vehicles.

This bill is supported by the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association. Some car collectors and enthusiasts aren't fans of the front license plate. A lot of sports cars don't come with a front bracket for the plates, making it hard to put them on.

Meanwhile, the Police Chief Association and the Iowa State Sheriff's and Deputies Association are against the bill.

Officers say both the front and rear license plates are important for criminal investigations.

The bill is currently in a senate subcommittee.
