Voters approve North Winneshiek/Decorah merger

WINNESHIEK COUNTY (KWWL) -

Voters heading to the polls Tuesday night in a special election overwhelmingly approved a merger between the North Winneshiek Community School District and the Decorah Community School District.

85 percent of voters in Decorah and 87.5 percent of voters in North Winn approved the merger.

Less than 80 students K-6th grade currently attend classes at North Winn.  Their 7-12th grade students already attend classes in Decorah.

The merger will allow North Winn to have one representative on what will be a newly formed school board.

That merger will officially happen in July of 2019.
