Names of I-380 crash victims released

UPDATE: We now know the names of two people killed in a crash along I-380.

The crash happened yesterday along I-380 northbound just past the Highway 30 exit.

21-year-old Devion Luster and 24-year-old Jacolby Burks were pronounced dead at the scene. Luster was from Dixon, Illinois. Burks was from Cedar Rapids.

A third person, 25-year-old DeShawn Woods was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police tell us their car veered off the road and hit a support pillar of a bridge overpass.

Police confirm weather was a big factor in the crash, saying the car lost control on the snow-covered roadway.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department says there were 44 accidents in the city today between 11 a.m. and 3:30 this afternoon, half of those crashes happened on the interstate. 

The accidents came as snow fell throughout the day. 

One of the crashes turned deadly. 

Shortly after 11 a.m. police say a car left the road on I-380 near Highway 30 and hit a pillar that was supporting the overpass. 

Two men inside the car died while a third has serious injuries. 

Another accident happened on I-380 near 1st Street, one person has non-life-threatening injuries. 

A less serious but scary accident involving two cars and two semis happened on I-380 near Wright Brothers Boulevard this afternoon slowing down traffic. 

Police are urging people to take it slow and be prepared for the slick conditions.
