UPDATE: Names released in deadly Winneshiek County crash

The Iowa State Patrol says 17-year-old Avery Arneson and 13-year-old Aden Arneson, both of Decorah, were killed in an accident Monday morning.

Both died at the scene.


Two people have died after a car lost control and slid sideways into oncoming traffic in Winneshiek County Monday morning.

According to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol, a car was heading north on County Road W40 when it lost control, slid across the center line and slid sideways into an oncoming pickup truck.

It happened just before 8 a.m.

The truck hit the passenger side of the car.

According to the report, the driver and a passenger in the first car died, while three others were seriously injured.  One person was airlifted from the scene to a hospital in La Crosse, Wis.

The accident report shows the roads were snowy at the time of the crash.

The driver of the truck reported minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol, along with the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, investigated the accident.
