Sioux City to vote on bike-sharing service

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) -

The Sioux City City Council will vote today to possibly work with a bike-sharing service that would bring more bicycles to downtown this spring.

LimeBike, an app that people use to locate "smart bikes" and rent them with a credit card or PayPal, could bring up to 250 free-standing and self-locking bicycles by March to Sioux City.

City Parks and Recreation Manager Angel Wallace said LimeBike is intriguing because it doesn't require the installation of docks, which could be expensive.

Wallace said it could provide affordable transportation and recreation opportunities.

Gabriel Scheer, LimeBike's strategic development director, said the city has the demographics and multiple colleges to make it a successful location to launch.
