Television sales spike before Super Bowl

Posted: Updated:

Believe it or not, experts say now is the best time to buy a television as prices are on track or even less expensive than they were on Black Friday.

According to Best Buy, business has been busy this week, and workers say they think it has to do with the upcoming football game and some of their new deals.

With the demand to watch the Super Bowl on the latest and greatest television, you might think it would cost you an arm and a leg.

However, according to Waterloo Best Buy Team Lead, Bill Murray, that's not the case, and his explanation is simple.

"Samsung knows this is the time of year people want to buy all those TVs. So, they're going to lower their prices down to what they can," Murray said.

As many stores try unloading their inventory to make room for new televisions this spring, you'll likely see better deals on Q-LED televisions that guarantee better color or 4K sets with better picture.

"When you jump up into the 4K, you're getting 8 million pixels. So, you're getting four times as much. Therefore, your picture is going to be a lot more clear and a lot more crisp. You're going to get a lot more color in there as well that you didn't get before," Murray said.

Murray says one of the most common questions he hears, is the difference between curved and flat-screen TVs.

He says it typically comes down to picture and price, but right now, with some of the deals going on at Best Buy, you can walk out the door and pay about the same for both televisions.

"Right now, Samsung has almost 30 percent off on all their TVs. You're going to be getting a 4K TV. From lowest standpoint, you're looking at about $499, and anywhere from there on up," Murray said.

A WalletHub report released through CNBC says nearly one in ten people who buy a television this year will do it right before the Super Bowl.
