Astronaut and Iowa native, Peggy Whitson, to receive character award

Astronaut Peggy Whitson is the 2018 recipient of the Robert Ray Pillar of Character Award. 

Whitson holds the U.S. record for total days in space, with 665 days.

She also served as commander of the International Space Station. On her most recent trip to space, she completed four spacewalks.

Whitson is originally from Beaconsfield, Iowa; its current population is only about 15 people.

On April 13, she will receive her new award. Previous recipients of the Robert Ray Pillar of Character Award include Shawn Johnson, Fred Hoiberg and Ashton Kutcher.
