Posted: Updated:

Knowing some geography can help take you many places. One student in Waterloo, seems to know all about it.

An Orange Elementary fourth grade student, Logan McGilligan, won the school's competition of the National Geographic Bee. This was the first found of the Bee, and it's a geography competition designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world.

There are thousands of school around the United States taking part in the Bee. The school champion will take a test to qualify, and the top 100 scorers will be eligible to compete in the state Bee in April.

The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the state winners to compete in the Bee's national championship round in late May. The first-place national champion will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the Society that includes a subscription to National Geographic magazine and an all-expenses-paid Lindblad expedition to the Galapagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour II.
