Clayton County Sheriff looking to help scam victims get money back

Posted: Updated:
CLAYTON COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office is working to help victims of scams get some of their money back, according to a Facebook post.

The Federal Trade Commission has funding for victims of financial scams that happened between January 2004 to January 2017.  That funding comes from a successful lawsuit with Western Union.

The sheriff's office says they've reached out directly to identified victims who have used this method to send money out of state, and is processing these complaints while assisting with the claims process.

The deadline for filing a claim is Feb. 12.

If you have been victimized by a scam and would like to file a claim, contact them at 563-245-2422.
