Amish community invites Waterloo photographer to take ice cutting pictures

Posted: Updated:

A Waterloo photographer captures a moment we don't get to see often. He was invited onto an Amish farm.

Waterloo retired photographer David Marvitz has grown close with some Amish farmers that live between Hazelton and Fairbank.

For a few years, he's captured pictures of them from a distance.

But recently, Amish farmers invited Marvitz onto their farm while they were cutting ice.

He was able to get some close-up shots of the ice and their equipment. Marvitz says it was an honor to be able to have this opportunity.

The photographer hopes to one day turn all the pictures he's taken into a book.

He hopes to one day photograph inside a store in the Amish community. In the past, he's taken pictures of the farmers planting corn, picking beans and harvesting oats.
