Two caught on camera trying to break into Maquoketa business

MAQUOKETA (KWWL) -

Break-in's are nothing new for Mary Ann Renner, owner of Can City in Maquoketa.

But an attempt from over the weekend has her scratching her head.

"I've had several break ins, but this one takes the cake. I mean, it's a little hard to take the door apart from the frame. They knew they weren't getting in. But, not very intelligent, I should say," Renner said.

She posted video of two people trying to break into her business Sunday night just before 11:30.  That video shows the two trying to kick in an area of the front of the store that used to be a door and is now filled in.

Renner says they tried that after having no luck taking the back door out of its frame.

"I'm just trying to stop it. It frustrates me that people like this are trying to get in. And I don't even know what they're trying to get in here for," she said.

She's hoping that by posting the video, she can prevent other businesses from attempted break-ins.

She says she's gotten a number of tips already and is grateful for how her community has rallied to support her.

"I think it's great that everyone comes together and want to help each other out, and try to solve this. Try to keep this from happening," Renner said.

If you have any information about the two people in the video, contact the Maquoketa Police or the Jackson County Sheriff's Office right away.
