According to Dubuque Police, the teen boy injured after being struck by a car on NW Arterial and Pennsylvania Avenue is Caleb Martin Loso of Asbury.

At last word, he suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Everyday, countless cars, trucks and semis drive through the busy intersection of Northwest Arterial and Pennsylvania Avenue on the west-end of Dubuque.

"You know, there's a lot of traffic. It's a very big -- busy intersection," said Greg Adams, whose Re/Max office has been located at that corner for 18 years.

The area also gets lots of foot traffic with Hempstead High School just a few blocks away.

Tuesday night, a 14-year-old boy running across the road with some friends, was struck by a car.

Adams saw the aftermath. "I happened to be driving by at about 9:30 last night and noticed that they were administering medical attention to someone on the side of the road."

Police said the teen suffered serious injuries.

They also said the driver of the car, had the right of way.

In order to cross the intersection, people are supposed to push the button for the crosswalk signal. It's not clear whether or not the group did, but police said they ran against the green light.

Despite what happened, some people said there's usually no problems there, as long as everyone obeys the traffic laws .

"There's no question in the afternoon and morning, pedestrian traffic across the arterial is fairly busy, but I really think the crossing guards do an excellent job of maintaining the safety for the kids," added Adams.

According to data provided by the Dubuque Police Department, in the last 10 years, 115 accidents have occurred in the vicinity of the intersection. The majority of them have been fender benders.

However, last year there was a fatal motorcycle accident not too far away from there.

Dubuque police say a 14-year-old boy was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious injuries after he was hit by a car Tuesday night.

According to a Facebook post, a number of juveniles were crossing the intersection of the NW Arterial and Pennsylvania against the light when the boy was hit.

It happened at 9:09 p.m.

Police say the car that struck him did have the green light.

Dubuque police are investigating a crash involving a car and a pedestrian along the Northwest Arterial.

Police Lt. Scott Baxter says northbound lanes of the road are currently closed starting at Pennsylvania Avenue, and will remain closed indefinitely, as the investigation continues. No other information on the crash was immediately available.

This is a developing story, stay with KWWL on air and online as more information emerges.
