IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City woman is accused of buying a car with a stolen and forged check.

Years after the incident, police arrested Tiara Woods of Iowa City. A criminal complaint against Woods accuses her of forging a $1,500 check to Carousel Nissan to purchase a car on June 27, 2015. It goes on to say that several days later, Nissan discovered the check was forged and therefore didn't transfer title and registration into Woods name.

According to Nissan, they had Woods return to the store to tell her that she didn't own the car and still needed pay $1,500 for it. Woods is then accused of leaving the store because she needed to drop off her kids and then get the money to pay for it.

Nissan told police that Woods never came back to pay or returned the car.

Police charged Woods with three counts of forgery and second degree theft.
