Honoring the past, while looking towards the future...

Public radio station KBBG 88.1 FM has been an important part of Waterloo's history for many years.

KBBG is a not-for profit radio station that first went on-air back in 1978.

Current president Deborah Berry says KBBG is the longest-serving African American owned and operated radio station in Iowa.

She says this station has been the start of many successful careers, and what makes it unique is that it focuses on what's going on locally.

Her goal is for the station to be around at least another 40 years. Right now they're focusing on teaching kids and partnering with local schools.

Tomorrow, KBBG is celebrating their 40th anniversary.  They're celebrating the anniversary at their annual banquet at Electric Park Ballroom.
