DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A documentary to honor the brave is premiering in Dubuque.

It's called, Veterans -- Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.

It features 13 area veterans from eastern Iowa.

"I was kind of hesitant thinking what's it gonna be, it turns out to be realistic...you can see this is all from the heart," said Army veteran John Rogers. "This isn't stuff they made up for the documentary."

The filmmaker, Roger Richard of Blu Skye Productions, said he was inspired to create the documentary because vets should be recognized everyday.

The women and men in the film, share their experience of what it was like in the military. Some of them, opening up and discussing things they've never talked about before.

"We were pinned down, we were running out of ammo, and I thought this is it, but then some gun ships came in, and helicopters got us out of there," said Jim Wagner, director of the Veteran's Freedom Center, who served in the Vietnam War. "There's moments like that that I don't think people realize."

The showing is Wednesday night at Mindframe Theaters in Dubuque.

Show time is at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free.
