Cedar Falls City Council passes fireworks ban

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

New Year's could come and go without any fireworks in Cedar Falls.

Last night, the city council passed an ordinance banning them from being set off in the city.

There was no debate about the topic and members of the public didn't weigh in either. However, the council was still split, voting 4-3 in favor of the ordinance.

Under the new Iowa law, fireworks can be sold from June 1 through July 8 and from Dec. 10 through Jan. 3.

Local governments can forbid the use of fireworks, but not the sale of them.
