2 people rescued from 3-story apartment building fire in Marion

2 people were rescued and sent to local hospitals after an early morning apartment fire in Marion.

Around 6 a.m., the Marion Fire department responded to a fire in a 3-story apartment complex in the 100 block of Southview Drive.

The first engine arrived at 6:06 a.m. and rescued one fire victim from the second floor. That victim was transported to a local hospital. Cedar Rapids Fire Department also rescued a victim from a third story window assisted by Marion Fire crews inside.  That victim was transported to another local hospital.

The fire was under control in about thirty minutes. No firefighters were injured.

10 apartment units were evacuated. 11 people have been displaced from their residences and The Red Cross has been called in to assist.

Some people were alerted by working smoke detectors. The Marion Fire Department recommends checking your smoke detectors monthly and doing an annual battery replacement.
