Community comes together for Leighton Strong party

Posted: Updated:

Superheroes with mighty strength are taking over Waterloo this weekend.

Their theme? Leighton Strong and 7-year-old Leighton Pullin is proving just how mighty that is.

His grandmother and aunt threw a party Saturday night for the community, as a way to give back for all their support the past year. Last year, Leighton was hit by a car while trying to cross the street, not looking both ways, off of W. 11th St. in Waterloo.

Leighton suffered very serious injuries and was airlifted to the the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in critical condition, but amazingly he has battled back. He went from a wheelchair, to a walker, to now walking on his own.

Even his doctors say that there's nothing that can stop Leighton.

Dr. Malicka-Rozek says, "We are very proud of him and of course I wish him the best. It's very very emotional for me for sure."

Leighton said his next goal is to sky-dive.
