Basement fire displaces Cedar Rapids family

A family was able to escape their home after a fire sparked in their basement.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a a house fire in the 4000 block of Old Oak Drive NE just before 1:00 this afternoon.

When crews arrived they saw smoke coming from the large two story home. Two people were able to get out of the home all right, but their dog was missing, but later found unharmed.

Crews were able to put out the fire within 15 minutes. The home has moderate fire, smoke, and water damage to the basement and light smoke damage to the 1st and 2nd floors. For now the home owners will not be able to stay in the home. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
