Top ranked Iowa City West ousts Cedar Falls

Sam Gary put on a rushing clinic, but it wasn't enough as No. 5 Cedar Falls fell to top ranked Iowa City West 27-9 in the state quarterfinals.

Gary finished the day with 196 rushing yards and one touchdown, but the Tigers dug an early hole in the game.

Iowa City West quarterback Evan Flitz scrambled and hit Austin West on an 18 yard first half touchdown as the Trojans led the Tigers 10-3 going to the third quarter.

Trailing 13-3, Gary plunged in on a one yard touchdown run to pull the Tigers within four. West countered with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns. Flitz scored on a 10 yard keeper, while Cole Mabry plunged in on a late two yard run to seal the deal.

Trumell Roberts led the Trojans with 130 rushing yards in the game.
