Denver falls to unbeaten Van Meter in 1A Quarterfinal

The Denver Cyclones fell to unbeaten Van Meter 27-6 in a 1A Quarterfinal Round game in Denver.  The Cyclones fell behind 6-0 in the first quarter before quarterback Sam Joerger tied the game on a one yard sneak.   Van Meter regained the lead on a Blake Fryar 98 yard touchdown pass to Anthony Lowman.

Van Meter led 20-6 at halftime and added another touchdown in the second half to advance to the semifinal round next week in the UNI-Dome.  Denver finishes the season with a 9-2 record.

    The Cedar Rapids Kernels registered eight doubles and scored the first eight runs of Monday’s 10-4 triumph over the Lake County Captains in the rubber game of a three-game series at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

    Steven Ihm came close to his first career professional win on Sunday. Ihm carded a 65 on the final round of the Utah Championship finishing at 23 under par. That put him one stroke behind the Web.com tournament champion Cameron Champ.
