DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

It was all smiles at the Dubuque County Courthouse.

Nine children were adopted by five area families.

The Musser family, can finally call little Mayson, their own. "He is full of energy,"  said Dieunn Musser of Dubuque. "He keeps us smiling and on our toes and moving all the time, and brings a lot of love to our lives and joy and smiles."

They recognized more children needed homes, and after confiding in their family and church, they decided to adopt. This also means their daughter Emma, now has a little brother.

"It's not easy work, of course, but the good times have definitely outweighed the more difficult times," added Dieunn.

Tony and Abby Ball of Peosta, adopted four children -- Kior, Mekenna, Omari, and Calvin, growing their family to nine. They already had three biological children.

Although it was official in their hearts, it's now legally official.

"It's nice to make it final...they've been ours for a long time, this just makes it really nice and official," said Abby.

To help raise awareness, there will be more adoption celebrations throughout Iowa in November as part of National Adoption Month.

According to experts, there is a need for more foster parents in the state. That's especially true for those who are siblings and school aged children.
