Students paint city plows before winter

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Students are preparing for winter by painting city plows.

The City of Cedar Rapids has been offering the 'Paint a Plow' program for several years now.

The program allows kids to paint the city plow blades that will be used all winter long.

"It really helps them feel like they are a part of it, a part of our efforts, a part of their community. These are their streets, and their roads and their schools," says Cedar Rapids Communications Coordinator Emily Breen.

Breen says the city tries to use the decorated plows on routes closest to the schools so kids can see their blade making a difference in the community.

Paint a Plow will be going on until December 1st, interested schools are asked to contact Public Works at 319-286-5805 or email street@cedar-rapids.org.

The public works department provides the paint, brushes, tarps and of course the plow.
