WAUKON (KWWL) -

Police in Waukon say a man is back in custody following an armed robbery he's accused of committing -- hours after he was released from jail.

36-year-old Mikeal Kountkofsky (of Dorchester) is charged with first degree robbery and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, and is back in the Allamakee County Jail today. Police say his arrest is tied to an armed robbery that happened at Hubba Hubba Convenience Store on 9th Street in Waukon on Thursday. Kountkofsky was arrested when a subsequent search warrant was carried out in Waukon, after allegedly leaving the scene of the robbery before the 9-1-1 call was made.

Officers say Kountkofsky had been released from the Allamakee County Jail earlier in the day yesterday after an unrelated incident.

Waukon Police were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Lansing Police Department, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation of the armed robbery.
