HAPPENING TODAY: Heisman Trophy on display in Dubuque

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The most prestigious award in college football is in Dubuque today and tomorrow.

It's being displayed at the Nissan dealership at 600 Century Drive, just behind the mall.

Not only is it the award that goes to the top player in college football each year, it has ties to Dubuque.

Jay Berwanger, a Dubuque native, was the first to win the trophy in 1935.  You can see his statue at Dalzell Field, where both Dubuque Senior and Hempstead play.

Nile Kinnick is the other notable Iowa tie.  He played for the Iowa Hawkeyes and won the award in 1939.

The trophy is on display today from 8-6 p.m. and tomorrow from 8-4 p.m.
