DES MOINES (KWWL) -

More than 100 accounts through the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System have been compromised.

IPERS says criminals used stolen Social Security numbers and birth dates. They registered for online account access and then changed direct deposit information and redirected payments.

IPERS says for now, online account access has been suspended.

The Department of Criminal Investigation and the FBI have been contacted.

Any retiree who uses the system should check with their bank to make sure their October payment went through.
