NEW INFORMATION: Production continues after fire at John Deere foundry

NEW DETAILS:  A Deere spokesperson says the foundry in Waterloo is back in production after a fire damaged a furnace early this morning.

The building was evacuated when it happened.

No one was hurt.

Deere says a damage assessment is being done and any repairs will be made after the assessment is finished.


UPDATE: People are evacuated in Waterloo after there's a concern a furnace might explode.

It happened at the John Deere Foundry at around 2:30 this morning on Westfield Avenue. Multiple fire trucks and police cars were on scene.

Firefighters say a furnace boiled over, which means molten metal was spilling out of it. There was concern the furnace would explode, but that didn't happen.

No one was injured. Firefighters and police officers are no longer on scene.

Workers are being sent home.

We are working to learn how this might affect the rest of the day.



Waterloo firefighters and police are on scene at the John Deere Foundry.

Firefighters were called to 2000 Westfield Avenue shortly before 2:30 Wednesday morning.
