Arrests made in infant shaken to death and hidden in a closet

Fayetteville, Arkansas -

Two suspects were arrested after police say a one-year-old infant was shaken to death, and its corpse hidden in a closet.

Authorities in Fayetteville, Arkansas, arrested 21-year-olds Tyler Hobbs and Maria Giron-Molina after police said a decomposing baby was found in their closet.

The baby was found wrapped in blankets, inside a container, in the closet.

According to police, Hobbs called 9-1-1 and told them a baby fell down the stairs and died afterward. The story changed when he told police it happened two weeks prior and that the two of them were afraid to call it in.

An investigation determined there was more to the story.

"He picked the child up and put his hand over the child's nose and mouth. The child scratched him and at that time he stated he blacked out and began to shake the child," Anthony Murphy, of the Fayetteville Police Department, said.

Both have been charged for mishandling remains. Hobbs faces a murder charge.
