Hundreds of eastern Iowa children got a treat from the sky this weekend during the annual Truck or Treat at the Marion Airport.

Children were able to pick up candy that was dropped from a helicopter, take a ride in a plane and even throw a pumpkin from the cock pit. A few seconds after the candy was dropped from the was all gone.

"I was kind of scared, I thought I was gonna fall or something, but I got some candy," said Destini Vanbek, Marion.

Some kids, not getting as much candy as they hoped.

"Every single kid was going after all the candy and I barely got any candy," laughed Hunter Jauron, Marion.

Airport staff was very excited to have the community at the airport today, saying it's a great opportunity to teach people about aviation.

"It's like trick or treating but it's out of an airplanes, out of airplanes instead of house to house," said Cole Norton, Marion Airport Manager.

Families were also very excited to do something together.

"We just like to do family fun things and spend some time together even though it's cold out," said Brooke Dickerson, Marion.

Children were also able to throw pumpkins out of an airplane or just take a joy ride.

"I am feeling awesome because it's gonna be my first time riding in a real life plane," said Hunter.

From pumpkin dropping, to dropping candy, families say they enjoyed today's Halloween celebration

"I think they are really really excited," said Norton. "Obviously they had to drag their parents out in the cold, but they are always excited about aviation, kids are always ready to go fly."

Even though today was a trick-or-treating event airport staff says it's a great way to teach kids about aviation and show them the planes. For trick or treat times in your area CLICK HERE.
