Cedar Falls rolls past Cedar Rapids Prairie 28-7 in playoff opener

WAVERLY (KWWL) -

Cedar Falls capitalized on multiple turnovers as the 5th ranked Tigers took down #8 Cedar Rapids Prairie 28-7 to advance to the class 4A state quarterfinals.

Junior defensive back Logan Wolf picked off a Prairie pass in the first quarter, got some blocks, and brought it back 42 yards for the score and an early 7-0 lead. Prairie responded with Keegan Simmons. Class 4A's second leading rusher capped a long drive with a one yard equalizing touchdown run.

That's where the offensive success stopped for the Prairie Hawks. Cedar Falls capitalized on a muffed punt return as Sam Gary capped a short field drive with a 12 yard scoring run that put the Tigers up 14-7 at the half.

In the second half, Daequan Thomas received a gift, scooping up a Prairie fumble at the two-yardline and walking it in for a 14-point lead. Jackson Gilbert capped the scoring, bolting up the middle for a two-yard touchdown to put the game away.

The Tigers earned a re-match with number one Iowa City West. The Trojans defeated Cedar Falls on an overtime two-point conversion in week three.
