McGregor tattoo shop reopens months after devastating tornado

McGREGOR (KWWL) -

Driving along McGregor's historic downtown, the scars of July's EF-1 tornado are still visible.

Many of the town's buildings are still in need of repairs. But for some buildings, there was too much damage to repair and the remaining walls were torn down and hauled away, leaving empty lots on Main Street.

Despite the long road to recovery, the community has come together in an effort to move forward.

"Lots of help! It is a small community, so everybody knows everybody. You don't really have to ask around for help, they just show up," said Crystal Scarff.

Scarff's INKspiration was housed in one of the buildings that was destroyed during the tornado and, for the first time in months, she is finally able to get back to what she truly loves to do.

INKspiration reopening in October, several blocks down on Main Street.

"At first, I was kind of nervous. The first day I was opening, I was like, 'Am I going to remember how to do this?' But it is like riding a bike; you get back into it and you get excited. I like it. I love it! I just got done tattooing someone, and it is fun," said Scarff.

Scarff started her new start with a familiar face.

"My first client was actually the guy that was in the chair when the tornado hit. That was quite interesting. He remembered more than I did," said Scarff. "He said the electricity went out twice. I do not remember that and I said, 'Let's just keep going.' Two minutes of downtime and then let's keep going, and I guess it went out again. Then that is when everything went crazy."

Scarff says she is just thankful for the community support and to finally be back open.
