Despite cold, First Cedar Rapids Halloween parade was a thriller

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

If the weather couldn't send a chill down your back at the first ever Cedar Rapids Halloween Parade then the floats certainly could.

"We're not going to let the snow, the rain, anything stop us," says parade organizer Peter Durin.

The parade started at 7 p.m. and went until 8:30.

Temperatures were in the thirties with wind chills in the twenties, still the sidewalks were full of people.

"I was gonna stay home because it was like freaking cold out, but these guys were still going to go so I'm like okay I'll go, I'm going," says Connie Martin.

Parade participants weren't too concerned.

"I think with all the walking we are going to do it'll be fine," says Sara Reed.

In fact some preferred the cold, like Emo, a gypsy horse.

"It's so much better for him this weather than the hot 90 degree weather," says Kristy Schoon.

During hopes to continue to new tradition.

"I hope it's contagious, I hope we continue to do this. And 2018, I've already submitted for another parade so hopefully we'll have a 2nd annual Halloween parade," he told us.

With more than seventy floats making their way from Newbo to Czech Village, there is no doubt this one was a thriller.
