Iowa hospital dresses up NICU babies for Halloween

Posted: Updated:

These little bundles of joy are ready for Halloween.

The NICU at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines is helping families and their little ones get in the Halloween spirit.

This is the second year that a nurse and her mother have hand-made tiny superhero costumes for the babies.

The costumes range from Batman, to Superman, to Captain America. They come in all different sizes.

Staff members say they just want families to feel a sense of normalcy while their babies are in the unit.

Seeing the babies dressed up definitely puts smiles on anyone's face.

"It makes the families happy, and it makes them feel a little bit more like they're at home. They can't take their baby home to take them trick-or-treating or show them off to anybody else and get them a costume, so we do it here just to brighten the day of the families." Mercy NICU Director Rachel Evans says.
