Unusual weather has Cedar Valley haunted houses struggling

Posted: Updated:

Strange weather this month is impacting some eastern Iowa haunted houses.

We've been seeing not just rain on the weekends, but also thunderstorms and lightning.

KWWL caught up with three big haunted houses in the Cedar Valley, Panic Park, Harris Haven, and Heart of Darkness.

They say  they are not used to seeing thunderstorms and lightning this time of year.

For the past two weekends, many of them have had to close early because of the lightning.

There's also been a lot of rain.

It's disheartening because this was supposed to be a big year for all three haunted houses. Heart of Darkness added three new haunted mazes.

Panic Park reopened after they had to shut down because of the 2016 floods last year.

And Harris Haven doubled in size, adding on a maze and addition haunted house called "Ravenhurst Manor."

The haunts say there still is one big Halloween weekend left.
