WEST DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Hy-Vee and its customers have raised more than $631,000 for those impacted by the recent hurricanes in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the rest of the Caribbean.

The check was presented to the American Red Cross Iowa Region on Tuesday, the largest check of the year.  Customers and employees made donations at the company's 245 stores during the month of September, along with a $100,000 match from Hy-Vee.

“Our customers have a history of donating to those in need, and we’re proud to partner with them to offer help to those impacted by the recent hurricanes,” said Randy Edeker, chairman, CEO and president of Hy-Vee.

Food, water and other supplies were also collected at recent Iowa State and University of Iowa football games.

“The outpouring of support that we saw from Hy-Vee and their customers during a time of unprecedented weather events is unmatched,” said Leslie Schaffer, regional executive, Iowa Region of the American Red Cross. “These donations help those hardest hit by the recent hurricanes as they work to rebuild.”
