Saints Jordan Wishman will play for Michigan State

Posted: Updated:

"It's a surreal feeling,' says Dubuque Fighting Saints Defenseman, Jordan Wishman.

Des Moines native Wishman Monday announced his commitment to Michigan State University, where he will continue his hockey career at the college level.

The Dubuque Fighting Saints announced the Wishman news in this press release:

Wishman said of the commitment, “I’m just very excited and thankful to have this opportunity to be able to attend such a good university with so much history.”

Wishman joined the Fighting Saints from the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL, and was selected by the Saints in the sixth round of the 2017 Phase II Draft. The 18-year-old defenseman helped the Brahmas secure the Robertson Cup championship last season.

Since coming to Dubuque, he has played in four of the team’s first five games, posting an assist and an even plus/minus. He is also the first Iowan player to play full time for the team since Brooks Bertsch did in the 2010–2011 season.

“Playing in Dubuque has been a big part for me getting this opportunity, which again, I’m thankful for,” Wishman added. “The coaching staff and everyone else involved has been amazing in helping me improve my game every day, so without them and my teammates’ help, this isn’t possible.”

Former Spartan Danton Cole, who played a major role as part of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program for seven seasons, leads Michigan State’s hockey program. The Spartans compete in the Big Ten, and have made 27 NCAA Tournament appearances, having won the championship three times, with the last one in 2007.
