Two hurt in Winneshiek County crash

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says two Minnesota women were hurt in a crash Thursday.

Officers say the collision happened around 1:30 p.m. along US Highway 52 and County Road A-18 in Winneshiek County, just west of Burr Oak. They say a Ford Escape driven by Susan Nelson was northbound on Highway 52 when the car made a left turn onto County Road A-18 and collided with a Ford Freestar driven by Kathryn Newman. The Freestar was traveling southbound on Highway 52. 

Nelson was airlifted from the scene, while Newman was taken by a private vehicle for medical treatment after being evaluated at the scene by paramedics. There's no further information on how either of the women are doing at this time.

Nelson is 64 years old from Harmony, Minnesota; while Newman is 68 from Mabel, Minnesota.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance, Mabel Ambulance, Mayo 1, Decorah Fire Department and Mabel Fire Department.
