SPECIAL REPORT: Stealing Votes

Posted: Updated:

Someone walks down the street to see if you're home.

That's the analogy used by cyber experts to describe how Russian hackers have been scanning state election systems, including Iowa's.

They're checking for vulnerabilities and the next time they're in the neighborhood, they might try to break in.

Less than two weeks before many of you vote in elections for city council and mayor, KWWL is Digging Deeper to see what's being done so your right to vote doesn't end up in the wrong hands.

KWWL interviewed a longtime county auditor in eastern Iowa about the layers of security they have in place. Plus, we're following the paper trail of a request made by President Trump's voter-fraud commission.  The group asked Iowa's Secretary of State for a lot of information about voters.  KWWL is also investigating a new tool Iowa has to prevent voter fraud.

Join KWWL's Jerry Gallagher for a Special Report: Stealing Votes Thursday at 10.
