UPDATE: HWY 63 reopen in Waterloo

Posted: Updated:

Part of Highway 63 in Waterloo was blocked off this morning due to flooding on the road. According to Waterloo Engineering Department, the reason for the temporary closure of US 63 between the Newell/Conger and Dane intersections this morning was due to a MidAmerican transformer that went down, which serves the storm water lift station. Without electricity the pump station could not function, causing the water to pond at the low point of the underpass.

The area affected was underneath the railroad bridge, before Highway 63 turns into Logan Ave.  Construction crews were on-site and believed an electrical issue caused the flooding.
