Update: City council candidate apologizes for actions

Update: City Council candidate Chris Shimp released a statement following an overnight arrest.

Shimp says, "I’m sincerely sorry for the disappointment I have caused due to my actions. I made a mistake and take full responsibility for it. I’m currently going to take steps to assure this kind of thing does not happen again. This in no way changes my passion for Waterloo and my intentions to serve its citizens. I plan to take the next few days to spend with my family and will continue the campaign later this week." -Chris Shimp


An eastern Iowa city council candidate is cited for public intoxication.

According to the Black hawk County Sheriff's Office, Chris Shimp of Waterloo, was arrested by University of Northern Iowa Police.

Shimp is running for Ward 5 in Waterloo.
