Bus driver accused of assaulting boy

An eastern Iowa bus driver is accused of assaulting an 11-year-old boy.

According to a complaint filed in the Butler County Clerk of District Court, Travis John Neve of Allision was cited for Assault, Simple Misdemeanor.

Authorities say the assault happened Sept. 27 at 24124 Woods Avenue in Butler County.

The boy's mom says she reviewed the bus camera video, and she saw Neve grabbing her son, lifting him up by his backpack, and then dropping him down to a bus seat.

We reached out to Waverly-Shell Rock Superintendent Ed Klamfoth shortly after to the incident was reported to our newsroom, and we asked whether Neve had been placed on leave, reprimanded or even suspended.

Mr. Klamfoth said administrators were aware of the alleged incident, and that because it was a personnel matter, he could not comment at this time.

We also asked if we could review the recorded video of the incident, and Mr. Klamfoth said that because the video is a student/staff record, it is protected under Iowa Code Sec. 22.7(1).

The boy's mom says she's aware her son was in the wrong by initially standing while the bus was moving and then not sitting forward, but she doesn't feel that gave the driver the right to grab her son like he did.

The mother says she recently started letting her son ride the bus again, and she confirms Neve is no longer driving that route.

According to authorities, Neve has been cooperating with their investigation.
