Aplington-Parkersburg grinds out 23-14 win over E. Marshall

Posted: Updated:

Aplington-Parkersburg returned to form with a powerful running attack as the Falcons topped E. Marshall 23-14.  A-P running back Lincoln Johnson scored 2 first half touchdowns but RB Sam Thorn had a dominating gain as the Falcons dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 10 minutes in the 2nd quarter.  The Mustangs tried to counter via the passing game, with QB Tyler DeBondt connecting with WR Cole Nauman on a 70 yard TD in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 6.  However, on the ensuing possession, A-P drove 95 yards to take the lead, capped off by a Johnson run.  A-P continued to use the ground game to its advantage in the 2nd half, while the defense stood strong for the win.  A-P can win the district title next week at home against Saydel while E. Marshall and Dike-New Hartford will battle each other to keep their playoff hopes alive.
