Rebels roll on to big victory over Belle Plaine

Posted: Updated:

A critical game in Class A District 5. Belle Plaine meets 8th ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck. Belle Plaine enters the contest 6-1 overall, and a perfect 5-0 in district play. While the defending state champion Rebels lost their first game of the season last week to Hudson. Belle Plaine can pretty much eliminate G-R from the postseason with a win. The game was moved to Independence because of poor field conditions in Gladbrook-Reinbeck.

The Belle Plaine defense would make the first big play of the game. Tavien Thede chases down Hunter Lott in the back field. He gets the sack for a loss of 11.

But that would not bother the Rebels. On 3rd and 21, Lott would come right back and fire a pass to Gage Murty. He fights his way for a big first down. Murty would get the ball again, this time on the ground. He makes a nice spin move around a defender on his way to an 18 yard gain. Then Lott would connect with Walker Thede. He just gets across the goal line. Gladbrook-Reinbeck takes a 7-0 lead.

The Rebels would be tough on defense too. Belle Plaine completes the pass, but Hunter Lott lowers the boom and makes the big hit. No gain on the play.

Then the offense would really start to warm up. Lott makes a quick shovel pass to Walker Thede. He races all the way to the 30 for a 52 yard gain. On 4th down, Lott finds Matt Johannsen. He gets away from the defender and is in the end zone for the score.

The Rebels would not be done yet.  With 30 seconds on the clock, Lott fumbles the ball, picks it up and fires a pass to Walker Thede. He runs into Belle Plaine territory. A 32 yard gain. Then it’s lott finding Thede again. He races through the defense on his way to the end zone. That would put G-R up 21-0.

The Rebels roll on to a big victory…43-0 over Belle Plaine
