Cedar Falls scores in every way to cruise to district title clinching win over Jefferson

Posted: Updated:

In 4A district 5, #5 Cedar Falls played host to Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

Cedar Falls entered the night leading the district with a perfect 3-0 record.  The Tigers could clinch the title with a win Friday.

Surprising Cedar Rapids Jefferson had a 2-1 district mark, and could strengthen their playoff hopes with a victory.

The Tigers were once again led by their senior quarterback Luke Gillett who had it going early.  On the very first drive of the game, Gillett quieted the crowd and threw a perfect pass to the endzone to his favorite target Blake Christensen to give the Tigers the early lead.

Then it was the defense, as J-Hawk quarterback Noah Vawter scrambled around trying to make something happen, but fumbled and Ben Gerdes jumped on it in the endzone to quickly make it 14-0.

Gillett then went back to work and hit Christensen on a strike.  They would however settle for a field goal.

Bad snaps were a little bit of an issue for Cedar Falls, but one way to avoid that was scoring before the offense takes the field.

That's just what Logan Wolf did on a punt return, as he went down the sideline for the score to make it 24-0 in the 2nd quarter.

There was more defense as Jack Campbell came down with the pick on a tipped pass to give Cedar Falls great field position.  And Gillett would take advantage as he hit Wolf on the fade route in the corner of the endzone.

Cedar Falls cruised to a 45-7 win over Jefferson to take the district title after failing to do so last season.
