Iowa puppy mill ranking drops

Posted: Updated:

The state of Iowa now sits at number four in the nation for the number of puppy mills.

For years, Iowa has ranked second.

Missouri ranks as number one, Ohio and Indiana come in as third and fourth.

These facts are based on studies done by Iowa Friends of Companion Animals. They get all of their information from The United States Department of Agriculture.

You can visit their website here.

The USDA is responsible for regulating and overseeing thousands of commercial dog breeders nationwide. That includes  issuing licenses and inspecting kennels to ensure that they comply with the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
