Zombie "Debbie" stolen from zombie-themed restaurant

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Where's Debbie? That's what one restaurant is asking after one of its zombies was stolen from them.

On Saturday, around 3 p.m., the top half of one of the life-sized zombies was stolen from the Iowa City Zombie Burger location. The zombie's name is Debbie and, since she was taken, the restaurant has started a #BringBackDebbie movement.

"We got Debbie and Harry. They came as a couple. Harry here has been missing her since she left. We got the baby on the wall so we got a little family here of zombies, and we'd like to keep it that way. Keep them together," General Manager, Doug Tobin, said.

Surveillance video caught two men in the act on Saturday. Tobin said it wouldn't be too hard for them to track down the man responsible, not only because of the surveillance video, but because he paid for his food with his credit card. That's not a road they want to go down.

"We're not looking to punish anybody. We get it. It's fun and games. Especially in a college town," Tobin said. "We don't want to get nobody in trouble. We just want them to bring her back."

In the video, the two men can be seen planning to steal her.

"Two of them kind of masterminded it. You can see them planning in the video camera, they went out and kind of checked it out and scoped the area out. Loosened her up," Tobin said.

A man in a yellow Hawkeye shirt is seen taking Debbie's top half, while the other held the door open for him before they ran down the street. One customer witnessed what happened and told employees, but the two men were already long gone.

In keeping with the zombie-theme of the restaurant, the two zombies are up year-round, and it's not because Halloween is upcoming. The zombies were custom-made for the store and cost upwards of $1,000. That's another reason they'd like Debbie back.

Zombie Burger is offering a $100 gift card and a free t-shirt for the safe return of Debbie.
