NORMAN, Okla. (KWWL) -

Joel Lanning went full iron man on Saturday. The Iowa State senior made significant impact on both sides of the ball in the Cyclones 38-31 upset victory over Oklahoma. That effort led to him being named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday.

On defense, the middle linebacker recorded eight tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, as well as a critical third quarter fumble recovery with Oklahoma threatening.

Lanning also spent significant time in his old role, occasionally spelling Kyle Kempt at the quarterback position. He completed 2 of 3 passes for 25 yards and rushed for 35 more on nine attempts. Lanning is the first Big 12 player to receive the Walter Camp honor this season.
