Vice President Mike Pence was in attendance for the start of today's NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers in Indianapolis, but decided to leave after some players took a knee during the National Anthem.

The ongoing protests have taken a spotlight across the country over the last several weeks, and Pence released a statement through social media saying he would not "dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem."

President Trump has spoken out against the form of protest, which first rose to prominence when former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem in 2016 to protest how "black people and people of color" are treated in the United States.
