JANESVILLE (KWWL) -

In a big district battle in 8-man football, the Riceville Wildcats battled two lightning delays and a stout challenge on the road, but used a 2nd half surge to beat the Janesville Wildcats 22-14.  Janesville opened the scoring with a 13 yard TD pass from Peyton Meyer to Spencer Hoff to make it 7-0.  On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Riceville QB Jon Miller connected with Cole Byrnes for a 48-yard TD pass to make it 7-6 Janesville.  With just over 6:00 left in the half, lightning in the area forced officials to delay the game for about 30 minutes until the storm passed.  On the first play following the delay, Miller intercepted Meyer's pass in the end zone to stop a Janesville scoring threat.  In the 2nd half, the two teams traded scores and weathered another lightning delay before Riceville pulled away for a 22-14 victory, taking control of district play.
